Captions

How to write one caption in Deploy for every platform you post to, customize it for one destination, and add a first comment.

One caption, customized where you need it

#

Write one default caption and every destination in the post gets it, unless you give one its own. The list on the left shows where each destination stands: Default, Custom, or Needs attention.

The default caption

#

Type your caption under Default caption. Below it, each destination shows how the text fits, counted the way that platform counts. If it's too long for one of them, Deploy says so and offers Shorten for that destination, which starts a version just for it.

Customize one destination

#

Select a destination in the list to open its own editor, then press Customize. Its version starts as a copy of the default caption, and from then on, edits to the default caption don't reach it.

Use default switches it back to the default caption. Your custom text is kept, so pressing Customize again brings it back.

YouTube's title, description and tags

#

YouTube posts a title, a description and tags instead of a caption. The description follows your default caption until you customize it.

A title is required before you can continue. If you haven't written one, Deploy suggests one from the start of your caption, and one click uses it. Tags are filled from the hashtags in your caption until you edit them.

Templates

#

Templates holds text you use often, like a sign-off or your usual hashtags. Press Templates beside the text you're editing to insert one where your cursor is, or save what you've written as a new one. A template can include {{filename}} and {{date}}, which fill in with the video's file name and today's date.

First comment

#

Instagram, Threads and Facebook can post a first comment once the video is live. Write it under First comment, below the default caption, and customize it for one destination the same way as a caption. The note under it says where it will post and where it's skipped.

If you connected a Facebook Page before first comments came to Facebook, you may need to reconnect it before its comment can post. When a first comment can't post, the video still goes out without it.

Preview

#

The preview shows what one destination will get, its caption or description and its first comment, next to your cover. On the default caption, switch which destination you're previewing with the platform buttons above it.
