TikTok caption character limit

When a video is posted from an app like Deploy, through TikTok's own posting API, a caption can be up to 2,200 characters. The TikTok app itself lets you write a longer one. Paste yours into our free caption length checker to see how it fits TikTok and six other platforms.

What counts toward it

Everything in the caption box: words, spaces, line breaks, hashtags and @mentions. There's no separate allowance for hashtags, so a long block of them eats into the same limit.

Questions

What is the TikTok caption character limit in 2026?

2,200 characters when a video is posted from another app through TikTok's API. The TikTok app itself takes longer captions.

Why does my scheduler stop my TikTok caption at 2,200 characters?

TikTok's posting API takes up to 2,200 characters for a video caption, so every tool that posts for you works to that number, Deploy included.

Do hashtags count toward TikTok's caption limit?

Yes. Hashtags and @mentions are part of the caption, so they count the same as any other characters.

Is the TikTok caption limit the same as Instagram's?

From a posting app, yes: both take 2,200 characters. Threads, Bluesky and X are much shorter, at 500, 300 and 280.

Write it once, post it everywhere.

Deploy checks one caption against TikTok's limit and every other platform's before it posts. 5 videos a month are free.
